Dallas Physician Launches New COVID Screening Technology

Scent-based screen over 20 times more powerful than a temperature check

Dallas, Texas –  August 3, 2020 — Dallas physician Sarah Davis, MD, has launched SAFER Card™, a screening system that helps businesses, organizations, and campuses reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 in their facilities.

The SAFER system works by identifying hyposmia (diminished sense of smell) and anosmia (loss of sense of smell). The system helps identify individuals who may be at higher risk of currently having COVID-19.

Individuals who do not pass the screen can be tested for COVID-19 prior to interaction with other employees, colleagues, or associates. The system’s low cost enables daily screening.

The SAFER system uses proprietary scented cards to screen individuals. Each card is produced with a unique QR code. The screen can be performed using any modern smartphone, with no app or special software required.

By anonymously tracking results through the QR code, SAFER can also help identify trends or hot spots.

The SAFER screen was designed to take advantage of key scientific findings relating to anosmia and COVID-19. Loss of smell is one of the earliest symptoms of COVID-19. Many individuals do not realize they have a diminished sense of smell until they are actively screened

Hyposmia is over twenty times more prevalent than fever in those infected with the novel coronavirus,. Scent screening is far more effective than temperature screening alone.

The company is piloting its system in student, patient, and employee settings, for diverse applications including university campus, hotel, medical office, and multi-campus business.  SAFER Card is expected to be publicly available beginning in September 2020.
